Is Tawasul Permissible ?

Is Tawasul Permissible ?

(Date written : 24 May 2015)

1) First let us understand what TAWASUL means. This word does not come from Al-Quran. That is a fact that everyone should understand.

2) The word from Al-Quran is WASILAH.

To understand TAWASUL we must understand WASILAH.

What is WASILAH ?

Al-Maaida : 35

● O you who have believed, be Concius of Allah and SEEK (ABTAGHU) the MEANS (AL-WASILAH) to Him and strive in His cause that you may succeed. ●

In FACT, Allah asks us to SEEK (OBTIGHO) the MEANS or WASILAH to HIM.

So, Wasilah is THE MEANS to Allah which ALLAH asks us to SEEK.

There is another verse about WASILAH :

Al-Israa : 57

● Those whom they invoke/call (YAD'U), [also] SEEK (YABTAGHUN) to their Lord, THE MEANS (AL-WASILAH) [striving as to] which of them would be NEAREST (AQRAB), and they hope for His RAHMAT and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever feared. ●

This verse has these meaning (among others) :

1) There are people who invoke or call (YAD'U) other human beings OTHER than Allah to answer their prayer.

2) Those people that being invoked; are ALSO  SEEKING the MEANS to get NEAREST (AQRAB) to Allah.

----

3) Those 2 verses above complement each other and below is the deduction :

The keywords are SEEK (IBTIGHO), THE MEANS (AL-WASILAH) and NEARNESS (AQRAB).

Hence, the understanding is - we are asked to SEEK for THE MEANS to achieve the GOAL to NEARNESS to Allah.

NEARNESS to Allah is the Objective or the PURPOSE.

WASILAH is THE MEANS or METHODS to achieve the PURPOSE.

The ORDER to us from Allah is TO SEEK The Means / METHODS of HOW to Achieve the NEARNESS to HIM.

MEANS or METHODS is always related to the HOW type of question.

4) Now let us look for the verses of Allah about HOW to get NEAR to Allah :

a) INFAQ or SPEND to the needy :

At-Tawba : 99

● But among the bedouins are some who believe in Allah and the Last Day and consider what they SPEND (YUNFIQU) as means of NEARNESS (QURUBATIN) to Allah and of [obtaining] invocations of the Messenger. Unquestionably, it is a means of NEARNESS (QURBATUN) for them. Allah will admit them to His mercy. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. ●

It is very CRYSTAL CLEAR from the verse of Allah above, that -

SPEND (INFAQ) some of our wealth to the NEEDY is A WASILAH - one of THE MEANS to achieve NEARNESS to Allah.

b) MUNAJAT or CONFIDE to Allah :

Maryam : 52

● And We called him from the side of the mount at [his] right and brought him NEAR (QARAB), CONFIDING (NAJIYYA). ●

This verse above explains about the story of  Prophet and Messenger MUSA (MOSES) PBUH, but this verse, SOMEHOW, has something that we can relate to achieving NEARNESS to Allah.

It is by us CONFIDING to Allah. Always CONFIDE (speak in SECRET) to Allah, for all our needs , our hopes, our problems. That is one of THE MEANS or WASILAH to get NEAR to Allah.

c) BELIEVE and Do RIGHTEOUS or CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (S°OLEH) :

Saba : 37

● And it is not your wealth or your children that bring you NEARER (TUQARRIB) to Us in position, BUT it is [by being] one who has BELIEVED (AMANA) and done RIGHTEOUSNESS / CONTINUOS IMPROVEMENT (S°OLIHA). For them there will be the double reward for what they did, and they will be in the upper chambers [of Paradise], safe [and secure]. ●

4) Based on the verses of Allah, THE MEANS to Achieve NEARNESS to Allah is by SPENDING (INFAQ) to the Needy, by Always CONFIDING (MUNAJAT) to Allah and by BECOMING A BELIEVER and by doing CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT in our Life.

5) Those are the MEANS that I can find from The Quran. If anyone have knowledge that is IRREFUTABLE, please add the MEANS or WASILAH to achieve NEARNESS to Allah.

6) However, There is ONE VERSE that needs to be Put ATTENTION real closely about achieving NEARNESS to Allah :

Az-Zumar : 3

● Unquestionably, for Allah is the PURE (KHALIS) religion. And those who take protectors besides Him [say], "We only WORSHIP (NA'BUDU) them that they may bring us NEARER (YUQARRIBU) to Allah as NEAR AS POSSIBLE (ZULFA)." Indeed, Allah will judge between them concerning that over which they differ. Indeed, Allah does not guide he who is a LIAR / DENIER (KAZIBUN) and [confirmed] disbeliever. ●

The verse above explain the act of some people - and By TADABBUR the RESEMBLING VERSES that RELATE to the Keyword NEAR (AQRABU), below is the deduction :

They say that ...the only reason we worship (A'BUDU) or we invoke or call (YAD'U) them is a WASILAH for me to get NEAREST to Allah.

Those people are called KAZIBUN or Denier or Liar By Allah.

7) Now we have understood so far by the verses of Allah on the meaning of WASILAH.

But there will be questions :

a) Can we Call or Invoke or YAD'U - Ya Rasulullah ... and ask from him to ask Allah for forgiveness to us. ?

To answer this - let us look at these verses :

An-Nisaa : 64

● And We did not send any messenger except to be obeyed by permission of Allah. And if, when they wronged themselves, they had COME TO YOU (JAA`UKA), [O Muhammad], and asked FORGIVENESS OF ALLAH and the MESSENGER HAD ASKED FORGIVENESS FOR THEM, they would have found Allah Accepting of repentance and Merciful. ●

Yusuf : 97

● They [sons of Jacob] said, "O our father, ask for us FORGIVENESS of our sins; indeed, we have been sinners." ●

Yusuf : 98

● He [JACOB / YA'QUB] said, "I will ask FORGIVENESS for you from my Lord. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." ●

From the above verses, it is clear that asking for help from the Prophet and Messenger of Allah, to ask forgiveness from Allah for us, is allowable DURING the Prophet Lifetime.

b) Is that act considered a WASILAH ?

NO it is NOT a WASILAH. Asking for Prophet to ask Allah's forgiveness for us is NOT a WASILAH,  because if we refer to this verse again :

At-Tawba : 99

● But among the bedouins are some who believe in Allah and the Last Day and consider what they SPEND (YUNFIQU) as means of NEARNESS (QURUBATIN) to Allah AND OF [OBTAINING] INVOCATIONS (S°OLAWAT) OF THE MESSENGER. Unquestionably, it is a means of NEARNESS (QURBATUN) for them. Allah will admit them to His mercy. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. ●

It means the WASILAH is the SPENDING or INFAQ that we do - that will bring us NEAR to Allah and will get us the SOLAWAT (DU'A) of RASUL. It is not SOLAWAT or DU'A Rasul that is the WASILAH. There is big difference.

c) Can we invoke or call... Ya Rasulullah ..ask for my forgiveness from Allah.. while Prophet and Messsenger Muhammad is already DEAD ?

Let us look at these verses :

Faatir : 13

● .. And those whom you INVOKE / CALL (TAD'UN) other than Him do not possess [as much as] the membrane of a date seed. ●

Faatir : 14

● If you INVOKE / CALL (TAD'UU) them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association. And none can inform you like [one] Acquainted [with all matters]. ●

Recall first, asking prophet to ask forgiveness from Allah during his lifetime is allowable and that is NOT WASILAH or the MEANS to get NEARNESS to Allah.

But, if the Prophet is already DEAD, they cannot listen. They are human being and not The God or Allah who never die and is All-Hearing. If we ASSUME or FOLLOW the ASSUMPTIONS of the so called SCHOLARS that they can listen to everyone that invoke them - then we are equating the DEAD the same as Allah and that is SHIRK - associating Partner to Allah.

And it is not even something to be called WASILAH.

An-Naml : 80

● Indeed, you will not make the DEAD HEAR (TUSMI'UL MAUTA) ... ●

Faatir : 22

● And not equal are the living and the dead. Indeed, Allah causes to hear whom He wills, but you CANNOT make HEAR those in the GRAVES (QUBUR). ●

Ar-Room : 52

● So indeed, you will not make the DEAD HEAR (TUSMI'UL MAUTA), nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs, retreating. ●

When Allah mentions many time in Al-Quran - He knows that there will be people who will come out with so many excuses to STILL believed that the DEAD can still hear. They simply cannot HEAR, as long as they are human beings - whether they were Prophets or Not.

====
8) But, before we conclude, let us look at this verse :

Al-Baqara : 154

● And do not say about those who are KILLED IN THE WAY OF ALLAH, "They are DEAD (AMWAAT)." Rather, they are ALIVE (AHYAA`) , but you perceive [it] not. ●

Allah mentions that people who are killed in the way of Allah is ALIVE, so that must be the truth without question.

But, can they HEAR ?

Allah mentions in His verse that THE DEAD cannot hear but these noble people are not DEAD.

Before answering let us ask another question - are these people in the GRAVE ? YES. Why are they in the GRAVE? Because it is at our PERCEPTION that they have died. If Allah said it is our perception that says they died and that is the truth.

So, what do we do when we see people to our PERCEPTION - no heart beat, no breathing - that they are DEAD ? We put them in the GRAVES.

And there you go, once they are put in the GRAVES according to our perception of DEAD people - they cannot HEAR as Allah makes it very CLEAR in the Quran.

No contradiction.

====
9) Still, some people who FOLLOW other people Assumptions SAY,

"but the meaning OF CANNOT HEAR - it does not mean PHYSICALLY HEAR - HEAR here means they won't listen or follow the Messages Conveyed by the Messengers".

Let us look at this verse again :

Ar-Room : 52

● So indeed, you will not make the dead hear, nor will you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs, retreating. ●

Ar-Room : 53

● And you cannot guide the blind away from their error. You will only make hear those who believe in Our verses so they are Muslims [in submission to Allah]. ●

The so-called Scholars have INDUCED interpreted the above verses saying that the 'HEAR' here is not physically 'hear', but a METAPHOR - because they conclude that the one who is dead CAN STILL HEAR because the next verse says 'you will only make hear those who believe in Allah's verses'.

Hear means to them is Listen and Follow.

------
Let us pray for Allah for HE IS THE ONE who Gives GUIDANCE :

The way Allah put those 2 verses - its DEDUCTION is like this :

Prophet and Messengers or anybody who follow the Messengers by CONVEYING messsages of Allah, can ONLY make the people who BELIEVE in Allah's Verses follow the Messagges of Allah while they are still alive.

For the people who are still ALIVE, but dont believe in Allah's verses, they ARE LIKE THE DEAD PEOPLE or DEAF People who CANNOT HEAR.

That is the TRUE MEANING. May Allah Guides THOSE who Believe in words of Allah from Al-Quran.

It is totally CONTRADICTORY in the Meaning made by those who put their OPINION in interpreting words of Allah.

The TRUE MEANING MAKE MORE SENSE and SATISFY our LOGIC.

Why ? BECAUSE it is DIFFICULT to COMPREHEND how a DEAD PEOPLE can LISTEN!

EVEN it is DIFFICULT to OUR LOGIC as HOW the PEOPLE who are SLEEPING to HEAR what we say!

To strengthen the Truth, Allah mentions in this verse :

Az-Zumar : 42

● Allah takes (YATAWAFFA) the souls at the time of their death, and those that do not die [He takes] during their sleep. Then He keeps those for which He has decreed death and releases the others for a specified term. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought. ●

DURING both DEATH and SLEEP, Allah KEEPS the Soul. Without the SOUL in our body, we cannot HEAR.

In sleeping, please tell a story to your friend and when he wakes up, ask him did you hear the story that I told you?

He will be saying = 'Are u nuts ?'.

People have been given by Allah the hearing, seeing and heart - think and follow the Al-Quran. Dont listen or FOLLOW the so called scholars who FOLLOW ASSUMPTIONS :

Al-An'aam : 116

● And if you OBEY (TUT°I') MOST of those upon the earth, they will MISLEAD (YUD°ILLU) you from the way of Allah. They FOLLOW not except ASSUMPTION (Z°AN), and they are not but GUESSING (YAKHRUSUN). ●

====

10) The Conclusion.

Is SEEKING the WASILAH permissible ?
(This is the Right Question and has right answer).

Of course - it is INSTRUCTED by Allah.

And Allah has already DESCRIBED that The Means are Spend to the needy, Confide to Allah and Become Believer and do Continuos Improvement.

We can ask the Prophet and Messenger to ask for our forgiveness after we have asked for forgiveness from Allah ourselves; if and only if we can meet the Prophet during his lifetime. And this has nothing to do with WASILAH to get NEAR to Allah.

We CANNOT invoke or call ..Ya Rasulullah (or any other human beings) ..
please ask for forgiveness for me.., when we cannot see and meet the Prophet and Messenger Muhammad PBUH ; simply because HE IS NOT ALL-HEARING AND ALL-SEING as Allah - he is just a human being and a Servant to Allah, that also die and cannot hear when he died. Performing this act is ASSOCIATING PARTNER to Allah (SHIRK).

====
End.

Allah As-Sami'.
